Online price calculators ask for square footage, which is the one number that predicts the least. A 2,000 square foot two-story with 34 windows takes longer than a 2,400 square foot ranch with 18. Walk the house once and note these five things instead:
- Count windows the way a crew does. Count every window unit and every sliding glass door. Note French or divided-lite windows separately, because each small pane is cleaned on its own. Most homes we quote have 18 to 34 windows.
- Mark anything above the first floor. Second-story windows, tall entry glass, clerestories and skylights each add setup time.

Two things move the band between cities: drive time and what is on the glass. Drive time is simple. Water takes a little more explaining.
A spot-free finish depends on rinsing with purified water. Unger, the equipment maker, says that once rinse water rises above 10 ppm of total dissolved solids it “may not be as effective in producing streak-free and spot-free results” (Unger). Local tap water starts far above that.
